BOARD MEETING AND MEMBERS FORUM IN CAIRNS

Last week, the RSL (Queensland Branch) Board met in Cairns, holding its first-ever meeting outside of Brisbane. This was a symbolic and significant move to demonstrate to members that the Board is committed to being open and accessible, and that they are not going to shy away from the difficult conversations. WOMEN VETERANS SYMPOSIUM OPENS UP DISCUSSION

The inaugural Women Veterans Symposium was held in Brisbane
this month and provided an opportunity for female veterans to voice concerns. The RSL-supported event enabled attendees to network, with discussions around programs that assisted them with returning to fulfilling civilian lives. Discussions and findings from the Symposium will assist RSL (Queensland Branch) and Mates4Mates in tailoring rehabilitative programs to better cater to the needs of women veterans. Read more

RSL SUPPORTS TROJAN’S TREK IN QUEENSLAND

RSL (Queensland Branch) is proud to be supporting Trojan’s Trek, with our sponsorship helping to bring the trek to Queensland for the first time in August. Facilitated by Vietnam veterans who have battled Post Traumatic Stress, made choices and changed their lives, Trojan’s Trek is a peer-to-peer rehabilitative program which aims to act as a circuit breaker for the next generation of veterans who are struggling to cope with life outside of the military. RSL representatives mingled with the next generation of airmen and women from around the world at a special International Air Cadet Exchange Program lunch during their tour of Brisbane. Read more

TRAINING OFFICE BEARERS INFORMATION

In response to the challenging corporate governance environment that our Sub Branches operate within, the RSL (Queensland Branch) Charities Compliance team have developed TOBi – Training Office Bearers information – to assist in demystifying legalities around board governance, with training modules and a Board Survival Kit available to all members. PTSD15 FORUM GALA DINNER

RSL (Queensland Branch) is proud to be partnering with Stand Tall for PTS to bring the PTSD15 Forum to Brisbane in September. The forum will bring together many of the people, both here in Australia and internationally, who are involved in funding, diagnosing, treating and researching all aspects of PTSD. As an outcome we are aiming to produce the first credible, comprehensive international report on post traumatic stress, complete with an action plan for the future. Read more

VETERAN ACCOMMODATION AVAILABLE IN GAYNDAH

Unit 3 of a 10-unit, low-cost, veteran accommodation village in Gayndah will become available for rent soon. The complex is located at 20 Warton Street, Gayndah. The two bedroom unit is fully air-conditioned and within walking distance of the township.

QVSAC PRACTITIONER UPDATES

New updates are available on the Queensland Veterans’ Services Advisory Committee (QVSAC) website. We encourage those who have undertaken the QVSAC refresher training, or will go through this in the near future, to check this website regularly. Read more

2015 POPPY MERCHANDISE AVAILABLE FOR ORDER

To assist our Sub Branches in fundraising around Remembrance Day, RSL (Queensland Branch) has ‘Poppy’ merchandise available for our Sub Branches to purchase at a reduced price, and on-sell to the public at a recommended retail price.

With 2015 being such a significant year in our military history, and the public support of the Defence community being strong, we encourage our Sub Branches to plan ahead and prepare now for their fundraising efforts around Remembrance Day.

The 2015 RSL (Queensland Branch) Poppy Merchandise Catalogue and order form are now available online here. Orders are to be placed directly with the Merchandise Team via the online order form.
