GO2 Veterans is the result of a long tradition of treating a large number of ADF veterans and their families. When our own veteran (Dr Kieran McCarthy) came on board as our GP two years ago we escalated that involvement, and now treat 200 veterans per week throughout the GO2 clinic.

Many who leave military service feel a sense of loss and lack of direction; those with physical or psychological scarring often struggle to find their place within their family and society. Financial and vocational pressures mount, and they may struggle to see a positive future.

Others just miss the bond of friendship and community that comes from life in the military.

We acknowledge the role the military has played in their lives, but it is now time to move forward.

It’s time for us to give back, and build more programmes of support through our ‘GO2 Veterans’ initiative. We are building the community they deserve; involving the whole family unit in health, wellbeing and building a vision for the future.

Our wider community is the veteran support agencies, whose role and aim is to support them. We all need to work together for the common good. We each have a positive role to play, and events like this bring us all together.

The GO2 Veterans inaugural event is our Family Day, to be held from 11am to 3pm, in the park near Kedron Wavell Services Club (themed like a school fete). What started as a small, simple get together over a touch footy game is now gaining some serious momentum, and there are a large number of interested parties who want to be involved (both serving and ex). This is great news, and shows how much community support veterans and their families have. Whilst aimed at our veteran community, this event is open to all – civilian social re-engineering and integration is a critical part of the path to becoming ‘Joe or Josephine Public’.

With a large number of dignitaries and relevant parties attending, we would be pleased if you were able to join us for the day’s festivities. Our goal is to have all the support agencies in one place at one time to show our unity, whilst we build the next phase of our initiative.

So, lets do it!
